Shibuya Crossing Time-Lapse – Tokyo – 渋谷タイムラプス – 4K Ultra HD

Note : This is yet another version of the first video we made a couple of month ago of the place (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpIhRwmWH8M). This video was taken when testing a new Lens for our gear and could not resist to share these footage of Shibuya’s famous crossing with you… Hope you will enjoy these short, yet goregous Time-Lapse of one of the world most famous crossing.

——————
One of Tokyo’s most famous locations, Shibuya Crossing, a scramble crossing, is located just in front of Shibuya Station and a few step away from the Statue of Hachiko*.

Shibuya Crossing has been made famous not only by its atypical crossing but also by its giants TV Screens, many advertising signs and youth fashion stores.

Compared by many to New York’s Times Square, Shibuya Crossing has been seen in many foreign movies around the world and quickly became a number one tourist curiosity in Japan.

*Hachiko was an Akita dog that died in 1935. He is celebrated and remembered for his loyalty to his owner even after the owner died. For an additional 10 years, Hachiko continued his ritual of walking to Shibuya Station and waiting for his beloved owner to return.

Shirakawa-Go Ogimachi Village Winter Illuminations Part II – Gifu – 白川郷 – 4K Ultra HD

Gifu Shirakawa-Go Ogimachi Village Winter Illuminations Part II – 白川郷 – 4K Ultra HD : Not only beautiful in winter by day, the Ogimachi village of Shirakawa-Go, turns on the lights at night for a few days each January, to become a life-size Light Sculpture.

Magical? In pictures the answer is most definitely yes, but in real life the place is crowded with so many tourists, it resembles places like Shinjuku or Shibuya on a weekend. Sadly it prevents you from really enjoying this unique event as it can only be experienced for a limited period of time.

Shirakawa-Go Ogimachi Winter Part I – Gifu – 白川郷 – 4K Ultra HD

Gifu Shirakawa-Go Ogimachi Winter Part I – 白川郷 – 4K Ultra HD : Declared a UNESCO world heritage site since 1995, Shirakawa-Go is one of the hottest Japanese tourist spots that is hard to miss. Located in the remote mountains of Gifu prefecture, Shirakawa-Go is famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses with some as old as 250 years.

Shirakawa-Go’s most famous village, and the one featured in this video, is named Ogimachi which not only features an open air museum but also many gassho-zukuri farmhouses that are still used by villagers today.
Designed to withstand harsh winter conditions they are made entirely of wood with thatched roofs, and constructed without the use of a single nail!

Gorgeous all year long, winter gives this place a unique perspective that can not be missed offering, for a few days each year, the chance to enjoy the village at night with special illuminations.
However, and due to the overwhelming popularity of the place, the village looks more like Shibuya on a sunny Saturday afternoon or evening with literally several thousands of tourists from across the world crawling all over the place. We had the chance to visit the Ogimachi village ten years ago during the week in spring where tourists are usually busy visiting other places in Japan, and, if you can, we would highly recommend you skip Shirakawa-Go and its village during the winter and give the place a try during the less crowded seasons.

Futarasan Chugushi Shrine – Tochigi – 日光二荒山神社 – 4K Ultra HD

Tochigi Futarasan Chugushi Shrine – 日光二荒山神社 – 4K Ultra HD

The Gateway to Mt Nantai, is how you could sum-up the Futarasan Chugushi Shrine. More modest that most of Nikko’s temples, the Futarasan Chugushi Shrine is in fact two places in one. The first, Chugushi Shrine, is located on the shores of the Chuzenji-ko with the Futarasan Shrine located on top of Mt Nantai 男体山 (2,486m), both of which were founded in 783 by the priest Shodo Shonin.

Unfortunately closed and inaccessible in winter the Futarasan Shrine will not be covered on this video today. We will make sure to give this place another try at the end of May when the trail opens again to visitors. However, we have to admit that the Chugushi Shrine covered in snow and empty of any kind of visitors gave us the chance to better enjoy the place, like a monk might do, when in total harmony with nature, with time frozen and where the inner beauty of the place can be revealed…

It’s yet another place that most people overlook when visiting Nikko and its surrounding area in winter, away from the crowds of tourists during the summer.

Yanaka Cemetery – Tokyo – 谷中霊園 – 4K Ultra HD

If you are looking for something different to visit in Tokyo, I would highly recommend Yanaka, with unfortunately the exception of Yanaka Ginza (Soon on TokyoStreetView). Yanaka is one of the places in Tokyo that has been frozen in time and that could, at least for us foreigners, be a bit weird. Indeed Yanaka is mainly famous for its vast cemetery where people not only come to pay respects to their ancestors and loved ones, but also to stroll or to enjoy a bit of fun with its several kids playgrounds! Yep you read that correctly, Yanaka cemetery hosts a few playgrounds for kids.

With such a vast cemetery you would imagine that Yanaka might also have a few temples worth visiting and you would be right! One of our favorite and oldest temples is the Tennoji (or Ten-noji) featured in this video and its breathtaking copper figure of a seated Buddha created, in 1690 by Ota Kyuemon who lived in Kanda Nabecho.

If it is temples you like, here is a list of places worth checking too!
Nezu Shrine 根津神社 (Tokyo Nezu-Jinja Shrine – 根津神社 – 4K Ultra HD – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RAjR_x_vU)
Jomyoin Temple 浄名院
Gokokuin Temple 護国院
Daienji 大円寺
Zenshouan 全生庵

But Yanaka is not limited to its cemetery and temples, Yanaka if full of surprises either bad (Yanaka Ginza) or good with some nice little restaurants and very typical old fashion Japanese streets perfect for wandering around.

The Worst Sports Teams Names in History – EXPLAINED!

Ninh explains The worst sports teams names in history. There are some sports teams that are named after ridiculous, non-sensical, non-threatening, or just borderline racist names. When your team is called the ‘Banana Slugs’ or the ‘Fighting Artichokes’, you know you’re going to be the prime target for abuse.

LIKE the video and add another if you think it’s worse!

Daikanyama – Tokyo – 代官山 – 4K Ultra HD

By far our favorite shopping spot in Tokyo, Daikanyama is also one of the trendiest spot that many tourists ignore when visiting Japan. With respect to Omotesando, Daikanyama offers a far better shopping experience with trendier shops and restaurants than the mythical and usually overcrowded Japanese avenue.

Granted Daikanyama may look like a maze that requires you to be extra curious to find what you are looking for, but it is part of the charm of the place. Whether you are a fan of vintage clothing or the latest brands, you will no doubt find it there!

Finally do not forget about Daikanyama’s wide selection of restaurants and bars that are worth checking out. If you do have the chance to visit this place here you are our recommendations :

– Le Petit Bedon (French) http://www.pachon.co.jp/eng/petit_bedon-eng/index.html
– Caffè Michelangelo (Italian) http://www.aso-net.jp/eng/michelangelo/
– Ivy Place (International) http://www.tyharborbrewing.co.jp/en/ivy/
