In this episode of VICE Talks Film, actor-director Nandita Das and actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui talk about their movie, ‘Manto’. The film is a biopic on the life of the influential and controversial author Saadat Hasan Manto, woven through his most famous stories and the struggles he faced for ‘obscenity’ in his writing. Das and Siddiqui speak, amongst other things, most notably about their process of understanding Manto as a person and character, trying to distil his work and what he stood for into film. They also speak about how Das still owes Siddiqui the rupee he charged to work on this film.
